This work is from a series documenting the vernacular architecture of the small towns in the upper Mississippi River valley in Wisconsin and Minnesota. I began this series after moving from St. Paul Minnesota to rural Wisconsin on the Mississippi River across from Red Wing Minnesota. In particular the series explores the places of community gathering: the churches, taverns, town halls and organization meeting halls. Upon moving to the river valley I was almost immediately struck by these humble places and returned to using a 4X5 view camera after a hiatus of three years. The work was exhibited in one person shows in Minnesota and Tennessee as well as a number of group shows. Twenty two images from the series are shown here. Prints are 22X28 and 30X40.
